WHY THE SABBATH COMMANDMENT SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN.
The Sabbath is the longest commandment that starts with "Remember ". You can be sure that the devil will say "Forget". It was observed even before it was officially established at Mount Sinai. It was not meant just for Jews as many are led to believe for it was established in Eden just after creation more than 2300 years before there was ever a Jew.
God seemed to realize that non-Jews would think of ignoring His instituted official day of public worship (holy convocation in Leviticus 23:3). He then emphasized saying;
"Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;" Isaiah 56:6. It should be by now clear that the Sabbath was indeed made for man (All mankind).
The Sabbath was also instituted BEFORE MAN SINNED which unveils the falsehood behind the claim that Sabbath was nailed to the cross. It was not a shadow to be fulfilled at Calvary, No! It is a day on which God rested from His work of Creation and they that worship Him on this day are actually acknowledging that He is their creator. No other reason for Sabbath keeping is known in the Bible apart from this. Not because Jesus resurrected, not because the Roman Catholic church changed the day, not because Christians are free to choose any day or any other reason man can come up with. All that will be building on sand and on Judgement day, all such buildings not founded on the will of God will fall along with the builders.
Since the Sabbath was Sanctified, it also stands as a Sign of our own Sanctification.
"Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them."
Ezekiel 20:12.
That's why Christ as our example observed the Sabbath as His custom, Luke 4:16. At His death, He rested in the tomb on the Sabbath and rose on the first day of the week. His disciples too rested as the commandment says and waited until the first day of the week to take spices to the tomb, Luke 23:53-55. The apostles including Paul too observed the Sabbath as a custom, Acts 13:14,44; 17:2-3. And Paul in the same book he mentions of the end of the law of shadows in form of sacrifices of animals, he declares that the Sabbath still remains just like his own example in Acts 17:2-3 indicates.
"There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his." Hebrews 4:9-10.
One bonus point to note on the Sabbath commandment is the fact that we are supposed to labor for six days to then rest on the Sabbath. Sabbath rest is meant to be preceded with labour. People avoiding the Sabbath commandment will be heard mentioning how "every day " is a Sabbath or day of worship. But God is not in favor of slothfulness and people avoiding work in the name of worship. "Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work." Exodus 20:9 is part of the commandment.
Only one day was blessed and Sanctified and not just for a season but FOREVER! No wonder even after earth and heaven have passed away, in the new heaven and earth, the Sabbath will still be held sacred.
"For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD."
Isaiah 66:22-23.
It is therefore "easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one title of the law to fail." Luke 4:17.
