THE ADVENT TRUTH
One day, my wife was talking to someone about how my stepdad passed away exactly one year after my mom. The person suggested maybe my mom, who had passed first, was angry and somehow made it happen. Another heartbreaking story is my cousin, who tragically took his own life because he wanted to be with his mom, who had been unalived by her ex husband years before. These stories remind me why it’s so important to understand what the Bible actually says about death and hell.

The Bible teaches that when someone dies, they are truly asleep—unconscious, waiting for the resurrection. “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything” (Ecclesiastes 9:5). There is no communication between the living and the dead, and no disembodied spirits roaming around influencing events. That means my mom didn’t cause my stepdad’s death, and my cousin didn’t “go to heaven” to see his mom after he passed. Instead, both are resting, waiting for Jesus to return.

Satan uses lies about death to destroy lives. If we think our loved ones are alive somewhere, it opens the door to fear, despair, and even demonic deception. This is why the truth matters so much: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout… and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). There is hope! Our loved ones are not suffering, angry, or watching us—they are peacefully asleep, and Jesus promises to wake them up.

Knowing this truth can bring healing and protect us from Satan’s traps. That’s why I share this message: because understanding what the Bible really says about death is a matter of life and eternity.
