Speaking to Jesus – Surrendering to Christ
Pastor Joseph Clark – Airing January 22, 2023
When I was a small child, I used to talk to Jesus. Some smiled when they saw me doing it; others looked puzzled. But I felt His presence—around me, within me, and watching over me. I felt safe under His care. Jesus was my best friend, and I spoke to Him about everything.
As I grew older, things changed. Like many teenagers, I drifted into unhealthy influences. I gave in to peer pressure and made poor choices. Even then, I knew God was near, but I didn’t fear Him. I would sin and pray, sin and pray—over and over again.
In adulthood, I became more responsible outwardly, but my heart still chased the wrong things—success, reputation, and worldly respect. I made idols out of ambition and intellect. I studied many religions, convincing myself that all paths led to God. Pride and confusion led me away from truth.
Then came a deep betrayal from someone I trusted, which plunged me into despair. Spiritually, I was dead—searching for meaning in all the wrong places and even thinking about ending my life.
But one day, broken and desperate, I fell to my knees and cried, “Lord Jesus, I can’t do this anymore. I give it all to You. You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
In that moment, I surrendered everything. I turned from false beliefs and gave my heart completely to Christ.
My rebirth was immediate. It was as if God lifted me out of darkness and said, “You’ve spent enough time there—now you belong in My kingdom.” The peace I had known as a child returned, and I once again felt His presence guiding me daily. A few years later, by His grace, He called me into ministry to serve Him.
Scripture confirms God’s constant presence and power:
Numbers 14:21 – “But truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.”
Ephesians 2:22 – “In whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”
God is always with us. He knows our hearts, hears our words, and sees our every step.
Job 34:21 – “For His eyes are on the ways of man, and He sees all his steps.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 – “The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The Lord is our truest friend and co-pilot. We can trust Him even when we can’t trust ourselves. His plan is beyond our comprehension but always perfect.
When we drift into sin, we feel distance—not because God leaves us, but because we pull away from Him. Yet the more we resist sin, the stronger we become, and the more the Holy Spirit reigns within us.
Let us remember:
2 Chronicles 16:9 – “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”
Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the salvation of Jesus Christ and the sanctifying power of Your Spirit. Thank You for Your grace that makes repentance and redemption possible. Guide us away from rebellion and help us to live in full surrender to You. In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
