1. Jesus as the Perfect Example
Jesus didn’t just preach, He healed, delivered, discipled, and sent out others to do the same.
Acts 10:38 sums it up:
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
That’s the full gospel: Word + Power + Spirit.
2. Why Don’t We See the Same Today?
There are two main reasons, and you already named them:
(a) The Fivefold Ministry is Missing or Imbalanced
Most churches are built around the pastor + teacher model only.
Apostolic foundations, prophetic direction, and evangelistic fire are often missing.
Without all five gifts working together, the church becomes a lecture hall instead of a Kingdom force.
Ephesians 4:13 says we need all five “until we all come to the unity of the faith and to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” If we’re missing them, we’ll always fall short of Christ’s example.
(b) It’s Not Spirit-Led Anymore
Jesus said: “The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do.” (John 5:19).
The early Church operated the same way: “They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31).
But much of today’s church is man-led, program-driven, and tradition-bound. The Holy Spirit is often reduced to an idea, not the active power of God.
2 Timothy 3:5 warns of this: “Having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
3. So Which One Is It?
It’s both:
Without the fivefold, the Church loses its balance and maturity.
Without the Spirit’s leading, the Church loses its power and authority.
Put those two together, and you get what we see today:
Lots of preaching.
Very little deliverance.
Rare healing.
No apostolic foundation.
No prophetic voice.
No evangelistic urgency.
4. The Way Back
Restore the fivefold ministry (Ephesians 4:11–13).
Return to Spirit-led power (Acts 1:8).
Follow Jesus’ command in John 14:12:
“He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”
Bottom Line:
The Church is weak because it’s missing both structure (fivefold) and power (Spirit-led living).
When we restore both, we’ll look like Jesus again, not just preaching, but preaching with signs, wonders, deliverance, healing, and disciple-making.
