The Divine Dwelling: Humanity's Hope in God's Sustaining Grace 🙏 Before the fall, God dwelt in humanity, imparting to them—as their Creator—a divine life that kept them from corruption and death; for being separated from God means the dissolution of a created nature that cannot live without the divine goodness which allows creation to endure. As the Apostle, teaching about the delusion of fallen humanity, said concerning God's authority and essential nature: "upholding all things by the word of His power" (Hebrews 1:3), and also: "For His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead" (Romans 1:20). For the all-good God did not abandon His creation; because if He had, it would have immediately and without delay returned to nothingness. Instead, He continued to sustain it, knowing He would renew it. So what kind of people should we be, we who have been reached by God's good grace?! For if God has had compassion on us, called us to the discipleship of sonship, and granted us a good fellowship in the blessings of His divinity through His only Son, how can we spend our lives acquiring perishable things? How can we gather the vanities and illusions of a false life far from God and make them the treasure upon which our lives depend? For the Lord, the true Physician, said: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). And because humanity is created, it does not live in a vacuum; but as a creature, it receives either the divine gifts or what its heart imagines.
