One in Christ
From the very beginning, God’s plan has always been to reveal Himself, His heart, His faithfulness, His mercy, through His Son. Every promise and every covenant was leading to the fullness of that revelation in Jesus Christ.
When I think about being grafted into the promises of Israel, I see how it was never simply about a nation or a people, but about God making Himself known through them so that all might come to know Him. God, who sees the end from the beginning, was never surprised by Israel’s choices. He wove even their story into His greater purpose, to bring salvation to the whole world through His Son.
Israel’s temporary blindness did not cause our inclusion, but became part of God’s unfolding plan of redemption. Through it, His mercy was made known to all nations, that both Jew and Gentile might be gathered into the same life.
It is Christ we are grafted into, the true Vine and the living Root of all promise. The life that once flowed through the covenant given to Israel was always pointing to Him, the true Covenant and living fulfilment of every promise.
When God made His covenant with Abraham, He caused him to fall into a deep sleep. It was a picture of grace, showing that the promise would rest not on man’s effort but entirely on God’s faithfulness. And it was God Himself in Christ who would one day walk that covenant path on behalf of us all. The cross was never about God demanding payment, but about God revealing His love, showing that nothing could separate us from His love. Jesus is the everlasting Covenant, the assurance that what God began, He Himself would complete.
For He is the centre and fulfilment of all God’s ways, the Word made flesh who reveals the Father’s heart to the world.
To be grafted into Christ is to be joined to the very life of God. In Him we see who the Father truly is, not distant but near, not demanding but giving, not condemning but saving. Everything God has ever promised finds its meaning in the Person of His Son.
Paul said that the Gentiles were grafted into the olive tree, but the root that sustains the branches is not Israel itself, it is Christ. And one day, all Israel shall be grafted into Him too. For in Him there is no Jew or Gentile, no slave or free, no male or female, only one new people, one new creation, born of His life.
In Christ, the plan of God is revealed, to bring all things together in Him, not through law, effort, or heritage, but through His mercy and grace. In Him, we find not only our salvation, but the very heart of God, who always longed to share His life with His creation.
“For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”
2 Corinthians 5:19
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female, for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Galatians 3:28
