A smear campaign is meant to damage someone’s reputation. Smear tactics focus on spreading negative propaganda. Targets of smear are usually public officials, politicians, political candidates—and, yes, even God.
When reading Revelation, you often come across vindicating songs—such as the one found in today’s passage—that affirm the character of God. It’s as though a smear campaign that was started a long time ago is only now being made right. Such a campaign of lying was the first tactic used by Lucifer when his pride led him to malign God and His law; rumors, distortions, half-truths, and outright lies were his campaign tools.
Revelation 19 follows the call of Revelation 18:20, that God’s people rejoice over the fall of Babylon. We move from a scene of mourning in chapter 18 to a scene of rejoicing. The first part of chapter 19 is a preview to describe the final coming together of God and His people. Later in chapter 19, we will return to Christ coming to deliver the saints, the conclusion of the battle of Armageddon, and the completion of the seventh plague.
This great multitude that sings praises in heaven are the righteous who rejoice that God has judged the harlot and “has avenged” the blood of His servants. The term “alleluia,” or “hallelujah,” is connected with worship and means “Praise the Lord.” This worship service celebrates that justice has been carried out.
The hymn of praise in this passage is similar to Psalm 24:7–10, which was sung when the ark was triumphantly returned to Jerusalem. In the same way, God’s people rejoice that they are now with their Creator forever. They have been saved by the power of the Lord, released from the “accuser of our brethren” (Revelation 12:10). Imagine standing with the saints before the throne of God, knowing all things have been made right!
Jesus, I rejoice in the salvation You freely offer. I give my whole heart in worship to You.
For Further Study: Psalm 104:35; Hebrews 10:30; Revelation 7:9, 10

And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: (Revelation 19:1 KJV)
