Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
What kind of day are you going to have today?
Not my normal way to start a paper, but I am curious. When you woke up this morning, what was your first reaction? Was it, ‘WOW, what a good night's sleep.’? Or. Was it, ‘Ugh, it's morning.’?
I have found that my first impression in the morning tends to dictate the rest of my morning. True, how I sleep (restful vs restless) has a lot to do with it, however, I have a choice to make on how it is going to influence the rest of my day.
There have been mornings where I would wake up, do that ever so wonderful stretch while still in the bed and pull a muscle I did not even know I had. So, I would go from YES to UGH, in 1.5 seconds. Then while hobbling through the rest of the house, stub my toe, step on a dog toy, and/or forget to put my cup on the coffee maker. Again, I have a choice to make, is it going to be a YES day or an UGH day. Let me tell you, it is very difficult to turn an UGH day that starts like that into a YES day. What I can also tell you is this, when I do choose to change my day, the YES becomes a BIG YES day and well worth the choice. There is something in the day that I was supposed to address and could only be done if I made the choice to change my mood. Brush off whatever it was trying to bring me down and put a positive spin on the day.
In my daily scrolls through social media, I have found so many stories where people have left notes of ending their life would have not happened had just one person acknowledged their existence. In this face to the phone reality that we live in, we have lost the personal connection and people do not feel seen. Even those who say they don’t want to be seen want to be acknowledge. Maybe not in accolades or parties, but simple human existence. It could be that you changing your mood in the morning, putting on a goofy persona or recognizing some piece of something about a person at the gas station is just what they needed to hear. Most of the miracles that happen, in my opinion, go unpublicized because they are just random acts of kindness.
A simple hello. I like that sweater. You have a nice smile. How are you doing in this changing weather? You have a lot in your hands; can I help you to the counter? Speaking to the child, ‘are you keeping mom (dad/grandpa (ma)) out of trouble today? Little gestures break that cycle of loneliness.
So, what kind of day are you going to have today?
Be blessed my friends.
***The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. – Isaiah 58:11
