Wedding Attire.

October 17, 2025

Weddings are often lavish affairs, and few things are more carefully chosen for the occasion than the bride’s wedding dress. The average cost of a dress today is between $1,500 and $2,000.

But nothing comes close to the price of the bride’s attire for “the marriage of the Lamb.” She—the church—did not spend a penny on her dress, for “to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright” (emphasis added). She was given attire as a gift paid for by the life of the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ.

What about “righteous acts of the saints”? We can never offer our own works in order to be made ready for heaven. “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).

The King James renders today’s verse like this: “the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints.” The Bible says Christ is our righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30; Jeremiah 23:6); thus, the saints are clothed with His righteousness. “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; … for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness” (Isaiah 61:10).

When we repent of our sins and surrender our lives to Jesus, He clothes us in His righteousness. This gift transforms us into His image and is revealed in righteous acts, “that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesian 5:26, 27).

Have you put on your wedding attire?

Dear Jesus, thank you for Your gift of righteousness, like clean and white wedding attire; please clothe me that I may reflect Your image.

For Further Study: Ezekiel 33:13; Matthew 22:1–14; 2 Corinthians 11:2

Key Bible Texts

And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. (Revelation 19:6 KJV)
