Hypocrite or Hypocrites
Job 20:4-11 "Do you not know this of old, Since man was placed on earth,
That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment?
though his haughtiness mounts up to the heavens, And his head reaches to the clouds,
Yet he will perish forever like his own refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he? '
He will fly away like a dream, and not be fond; Yes, he will be chased away like a vision of the night.
The eye that saw him will see him no more, Nor will his place behold him anymore.
His children will seek the favor of the poor, And his hands will restore his wealth.
His bones are full of his youthful vigor, But it will lie down with him in the dust.
Isaiah 9:13-17 For the people do not turn to Him who strikes them, Nor do they seek the LORD of hosts.
Therefore the LORD will cut off head and tail from Israel, Palm branches and bulrush in one day.
The elder and honorable, he is the head; The prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.
For the leaders of this people cause them to err, And those who are led by them are destroyed.
Therefore the Lord will have no joy in their young men, Nor have mercy of their fatherless and widows; For everyone is a hypocrite and an evildoer, And every mouth speaks folly. For all this His anger is not turned away, But His hand is stretched out still.
Galatians 2:11-16 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed;
for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.
And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with the hypocrisy.
But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "Of you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?
"We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
"knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
Matthew 6:5-15 "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the street, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and our Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
"And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words,
"Therefore do no be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
“In this manner, therefore pray; Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name,
Your Kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven,
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors,
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.
“But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will Your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 22:17-22 “Tell us, therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful, to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, You hypocrites?
“Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius.
And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
