THE ADVENT TRUTH
How to Cure Racism
Ellen G. White warned that the walls of prejudice and racism will only tumble when God’s people return to full obedience to His Word. She wrote that when we follow Christ’s example of selfless love, the barriers men have built between nations, classes, and races will fall, for in Christ “there is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free, male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). The gospel is not partial. It does not elevate one race above another, nor diminish the value of any soul. Instead, it exalts Christ as the center of unity.
Scripture testifies that God “hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth” (Acts 17:26). This truth dismantles every excuse for racism, tribalism, or supremacy. The Bible shows that heaven’s family is multi-ethnic, and at the end of time John sees “a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues” standing before the throne of God (Revelation 7:9). This is the fruit of the everlasting gospel, the Three Angels’ Messages—calling all peoples, in every language and land, to worship the Creator and prepare for Christ’s return (Revelation 14:6–7).
But prejudice lingers in the church when God’s Word is not obeyed. Jesus said the great commandment is to “love the Lord thy God” and the second is like it: “love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:37–39). Racism is a denial of that command. It is sin. Only when the divine principles of the Word of God are accepted and obeyed, they will break down the barriers of selfishness and prejudice. Only then can the world see that Christ’s body is one, not divided by skin color or culture.
God does not look at outward appearance, but at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). His love is impartial, “for there is no respect of persons with God” (Romans 2:11). The cross reveals that Christ died for all, “that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
