THREE ANGELS BROADCASTING NETWORK DEVOTIONAL
Shine On.

So that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life.”
Philippians 2:15–16 (NIV)
Surely, I thought, I’m in a minority. How many folks living on a farm walk their dogs on leashes? A strange practice, but my little female Yorkie was apt to frisk across the fields chasing critters for miles. When we first moved to the country, I had given her a chance to learn her boundaries, but to no avail. After narrowly escaping an encounter with a vicious neighboring dog that lived at the bottom of the hill, I resorted to hitching up my team for their outdoor activities.
It was late, and I was tired. I halfway resented having to bundle up to greet the cold. Still, as I stepped out into the crisp night air, I felt invigorated. Looking toward the heavens, my attention riveted on the sky and my heart filled with awe. It was a moonless night. Thousands of stars were visible. They looked like diamonds, displayed on a bolt of black velvet.
I began to speak an affirmation of faith from God’s Word. “I thank You, Lord, that You cause me to shine like a star in the universe as I hold forth Your Word of life.” Philippians 2:15–16. I knew the scripture meant God was creating in me a spiritual character that would stand out in the midst of a dark culture as I put His Word into practice and shared it with others.
Suddenly, a thought struck me. Father, is this similar to what You see when You look down from Heaven? A world of darkness, dotted with thousands of shining saints? Are some of us shining with more brilliance because we hold forth to others more light from Your Scriptures? Are many of us like the dimmer stars because we share so little of Your marvelous truths?
Oh, may the Lord help us to be quick to share the light of His Word—His exceedingly great and precious promises—with suffering souls around us. May He use our witness to cast a beam of His light on the darkened path of the lost, and show them the way to His path of life.
Oh, Lord! Cause our lives to be bright shining stars in contrast to the sinful world system around us. Cause us to shine on!
Shine On.
