Keeping the Light Burning

Scripture

Leviticus 24:2 (NKJV)
Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually.

A Continual Light

In this verse, God instructs Moses that the lamps in the tabernacle must burn continually. The people were to bring pure oil so that the light would never go out. This light symbolized God’s constant presence among His people and served as a reminder that their worship and devotion were to be ongoing, not occasional.

For believers today, this verse teaches a powerful truth about spiritual consistency. The oil represents the Holy Spirit, and the flame represents our faith and devotion. God calls us to keep the fire of our relationship with Him burning—through prayer, worship, and obedience. Our hearts must remain filled with the oil of His Spirit so that His light shines through us continually.

This verse reminds us that faith is not just about moments of passion but about daily commitment to walk in God’s presence and reflect His light to the world.

Reflection Questions

1. Is the light of my faith burning brightly, or has it grown dim through neglect or distraction?

2. What practices help me stay filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit?

3. How can I shine God’s light consistently in my home, work, and community?

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for being the light that never goes out. Fill me with Your Spirit so that my faith burns brightly each day. Help me to live in a way that reflects Your presence continually, not only in worship but in every part of my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
