WHEN ALL HOPE SEEMS LOST
From the eBook: “It’s Not Over”
By Rev. Ishmael Asare Bakae
Scripture Focus:
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.” — Psalm 42:11
There are moments in life when hope seems to fade like the last flicker of a dying candle. You have prayed, fasted, and believed, yet the outcome remains unchanged. The more you expect, the more disappointment seems to appear. It feels as though the heavens are shut and God is silent. But hear this truth — even when all hope seems lost, God is still in control.
Hopelessness is one of the enemy’s most potent weapons. It blinds us to God’s faithfulness and magnifies our fears. Yet, the child of God must learn to see beyond the present pain and focus on the eternal promises of God. Hope is the anchor that keeps our souls steady in the storm.
When the Bones Were Very Dry
In Ezekiel 37, the prophet was carried by the Spirit into a valley filled with dry bones. God asked him, “Son of man, can these bones live?” Humanly speaking, the situation was hopeless. The bones were not just dry — they were very dry. Yet, as Ezekiel prophesied, breath entered them, and they became a mighty army.
This is a powerful revelation: no situation is too dead for God to revive. Your “dry bones” — whether they are broken dreams, lost opportunities, or shattered relationships — can live again. God specializes in bringing life out of lifelessness.
When the Oil Seemed Finished
In 2 Kings 4:1–7, a widow cried to Elisha because her husband had died and the creditors were coming to take her sons. She thought it was the end. But the prophet asked, “What do you have in your house?” She replied, “Nothing except a jar of oil.” That small jar became the source of her miracle.
Beloved, even in your most hopeless moment, there is always something left that God can use — a mustard seed of faith, a small act of obedience, a word of prayer, a step of faith. Hope is not found in what you have lost but in what God can still do with what remains.
When Jesus Came Late
In John 11, Lazarus had been dead for four days. His sisters, Mary and Martha, told Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” To them, it was too late. But Jesus responded, “I am the resurrection and the life.”
Even when it seems God has come too late, He is still on time according to His divine agenda. What you think is over, God calls sleeping. He can awaken any situation — your finances, your health, your ministry, your destiny.
God’s delays are never denials, and His silence is not absence. He is still working even when you cannot see Him.
Hope That Endures
Hope is not mere optimism; it is confidence in the unchanging character of God. It is the assurance that God is too faithful to fail and too loving to forget. Paul declared, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair” (2 Corinthians 4:8).
When all human help fails, divine help steps in. When you have reached your limit, God begins. He is the God of the impossible, and nothing is beyond His reach.
The Dawn Will Break
Every night has an end, and every storm eventually ceases. Your weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). What you call the end, God calls the beginning of a new chapter.
Keep your hope alive. Refuse to surrender to despair. Lift up your head, child of God — your Redeemer lives, and He will turn your hopelessness into hallelujahs.
Reflection
1. Which situation in your life feels hopeless right now?
2. Can you identify a time when God turned your hopeless situation into victory?
3. How can you strengthen your hope in God during moments of silence or delay?
Prayer Points
1. Father, thank You for being my source of unshakable hope in times of despair.
2. Every dry bone in my life, hear the word of the Lord — live again in Jesus’ name!
3. Lord, turn my hopeless situations into testimonies that glorify Your name.
4. I reject every voice of discouragement and hopelessness; I choose to trust You, Lord.
5. Let the light of hope arise in every dark area of my life, in the mighty name of Jesus.
