Amos 2:13-16 NKJV
Amos 2:13-16 "Behold, I am weighed down by you, As a cart full of sheaves is weighed down.
Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, The strong shall not strengthen his power, Nor shall the mighty deliver himself; He shall not stand who handles the bow, The swift of foot shall not escape, Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.
The most courageous men of might Shall flee naked in that day," says the LORD.
Isaiah 1:10-31 Hear the word of the Lord, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah;
“To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?’ Says the Lord. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats.
“When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, To trample My courts?
Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies– I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting,
Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them.
When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear, Your hands are full of blood.
Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil,
Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.
“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;
But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
How the faithful city has become a harlot! It was full of justice; Righteousness lodged in it, But now murderers.
Your silver has become dross, Your wine mixed with water.
Your princes are rebellious, And companions of thieves; Everyone loves bribes And follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, Nor does the cause of the widow come before them.
Therefore the Lord says, The LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, “Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries, and take vengeance on My enemies.
I will turn My hand against you, and thoroughly purge away your dross, and take away all your alloy.
I will restore your judges as at the first, And your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.”
Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and her penitents with righteousness.
The destruction of transgressors and of sinners shall be together, And those who forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees Which you have desired; And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens Which you have chosen.
For you shall be a terebinth whose leaf fades, And as a garden that has no water.
The strong shall be as tinder, And the work of it as a spark; Both will burn together, And no one shall quench them.
Jeremiah 46:1-12 The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the nations.
Against Egypt. Concerning the army of Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, which was by the River Euphrates in Carchemish, and which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah;
"Order the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle!
Harness the horses, and mount up, you horsemen! Stand forth with your helmets, Polish the spears, Put on the armor!
Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back? Their might ones are beaten down; They have speedily fled, And did not look back, For fear was all around," says the LORD.
"Do not let the swift flee away, Nor the mighty man escape; They will stumble and fall Toward the north, by the River Euphrates.
"Who is this coming up like a flood, Whose waters move like the rivers?
Egypt rises up like a flood, And its waters move like the rivers; And he says, 'I will go up and cover the earth, I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.'
Come up, O horses, and rage, O chariots! And let the might men come forth; The Ethiopians and the Libyans who handle the shield, And the Lydians who handle and bend the bow.
For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, A day of vengeance, That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries. The sword shall devour; It shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood; For the LORD God of hosts has a sacrifice In the north country by the River Euphrates.
"Go up to Gilead and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt; In vain you will use many medicines; You shall not be cured.
The nations have heard of your shame, And your cry has filled the land; For the might man has stumbled against the mighty; They both have fallen together."
