Joel 1:1-3 NKJV
Psalm 78:1-20 Give ear, O My people, to my law; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,
Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us.
We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.
For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel. Which He commanded our fathers, That they shall make them known tho their children;
That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,
That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments;
And may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not set its heart aright, And whose spirit was not faithful to God.
The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, Turned back in the day of battle.
They did not keep the covenant of God; They refused to walk in His law,
And forget His works And His wonders that He had shown them.
Marvelous things He did in the sight of their fathers, In the land of Egypt, In the field of Zoan.
He divided the sea and caused them to pass through; And He made the waters stand up like a heap.
In the daytime also He led them with the cloud, And all the night with a light of fire.
He split the rocks in the wilderness, And gave them drink in abundance like the depths.
He also brought streams out of the rock, And caused waters to run down like rivers.
But they sinned even more against Him by rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness,
And they they tested God in their heart by asking for the food of their fancy.
Yes, they spoke against God; They said, "Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
Behold, He struck the rock, So that the waters gushed out, And the streams overflowed. Can He give bread also? Can He provide meat for His people?"
Deuteronomy 4:9-10 "Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren,
"especially concerning the day you stood before the Lord your God in Horeb, when the Lord said to em, 'Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on earth, and that they may teach their children.'
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 "Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, The Lord is one.
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
"You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
"You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
"You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on you gates.
Amos 5:18-24 Woe to you who who desire the day of the Lord! For what good is the day of the Lord to you? It will be darkness, and not light.
It will be as though a man fled from a lion, And a bear met him! Or as though he went into the house, Leaned his hand on a wall, And a serpent bit him!
Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light? Is it not very dark, with no brightness in it?
"I hate, I despise your feast days, And I do not savor your sacred assembles.
Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings.
Take away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments.
But let justice run down like water; And righteousness like a mighty stream.
