John 1:9-13 RSV
John 1:9-13 The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not.
he came to his own home, and his own people received him not.
But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God;
who are born, not of blood nor of the will of flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
Isaiah 49:5-6 And now the LORD says, who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him, and that Israel might be gathered to him, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength--
he says; "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth."
John 1:3-4 all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 19:5-16 So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, "Here is the man!"
When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, "Crucify him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves and crucify, for I find no crime in him,."
The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he has made himself the Son of God."
When Pilate heard these words, he was the more afraid;
he entered the praetorium again and said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave no answer. Pilate therefore said to him, "You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release, and power to crucify you?"
Jesus answered him, "You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above; therefore he who delivered me to you has the greater sin."
Upon this Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend; every one who makes himself a king sets himself against Caesar."
When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgement seat at a place called the Pavement, and in Hebrew, Gab'ba-tha.
Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, "Here is your King"
They cried out, "Away with him, away with him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."
Then he handed him over to them to be crucified.
1 John 3:1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God, and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
John 3:1-8 Now there was a man of the Par'-i-sees, named Nic-o-de'-mus, a ruler of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him."
Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Nic-o-de'-mus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born anew,'
The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it came to whither it goes; so it is with every who is born of the Spirit."
