John 1:29-42 NKJV

John 1:29-42 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

"This is He  of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred  before me, for He was before me.'

"I did not know Him, but that He should be revealed  to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water."

And John bore witness, saying,  "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.

"I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to em, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'

"and I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."

Again, the next day John stood with two of his disciples,

And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!"

The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?"

He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour),

One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew Simon Peter's brother.

He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ),

And He brought him to Jesus, Now when Jesus looked at him, He said,  "You are Simon the son of Jonah, You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone).

1 Peter 2:18-25 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh.

For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully.

For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

"who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth",

who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return, when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-- by whose stripes you were healed.

For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned  to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Matthew 16:13-28 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"

So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, Some Elijah, and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."

He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'

Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

"And I also say to you; that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

"And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you lose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord; this shall not happen to You!"

But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."

Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

"For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

"For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange  for his soul?

"For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

"Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom."
