Good day! I hope everyone is blessed as we end our week. With this teaching, I will conclude. Have a blessed weekend!
1. The Garden of Eden: Authority Lost
In Genesis 1:26–28, God gave humanity a clear mandate:
“Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion…”
So mankind (Adam) was given dominion — rulership over the earth, animals, creation, and the spiritual environment of the planet.
But when Adam sinned, he transferred authority to Satan by obeying his voice instead of God’s.
Romans 6:16 – “To whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are…”
Luke 4:6 – When Satan tempted Jesus, he said:
“All this authority has been given to me, and I give it to whom I will…”
Notice: Satan had it — because Adam gave it through disobedience.
That’s where humanity’s birthright and dominion were stolen — not because God lost power, but because man lost legal authority on earth.
2. The Garden of Gethsemane: Authority Regained
Now fast-forward: Jesus enters another garden — Gethsemane.
The first Adam fell in a garden; the last Adam surrendered in a garden.
1 Corinthians 15:45 – “The first man Adam became a living soul; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.”
Luke 22:44 – “And being in agony He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground.”
That blood hitting the ground is symbolic — it’s redeeming the cursed ground from Genesis 3:17 where God said,
“Cursed is the ground for your sake.”
In Gethsemane, Jesus’ blood touches the same ground man cursed by sin. He begins reversing the curse before the cross even comes.
3. The Tree Connection
Genesis 2:17 – “Of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat…”
Acts 5:30 – “Jesus, whom you slew and hanged on a tree.”
Galatians 3:13 – “Cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree.”
Adam’s sin came through a tree. Jesus’ redemption came through a tree.
The first tree brought death; the second tree (the cross) brought life.
God used the same element of defeat — a tree — to bring victory. That’s divine poetry and justice.
4. Jesus Resisted Every Temptation Adam Failed
The temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4, Luke 4) mirrors the temptation in Eden.
Lust of the flesh: “Turn these stones into bread”
→ Same as Eve saw that the fruit was good for food (Genesis 3:6).
Lust of the eyes: “All these kingdoms I will give you”
→ Eve saw that the fruit was pleasant to the eyes.
Pride of life: “Throw Yourself down; angels will catch You”
→ Same as the serpent saying, “You will be like God.”
Jesus overcame every category of sin Adam fell into (see 1 John 2:16) — but He did it as a man, not using His divine privileges (Philippians 2:6–8).
That’s why His obedience was legally valid to redeem humanity.
5. The Baptism & the Holy Spirit
When Jesus was baptized (Luke 3:21–22), the Spirit descended on Him as a dove.
That’s when His ministry as a man anointed by God began — not as “God in disguise,” but as the perfect human vessel fully yielded to the Spirit.
Acts 10:38 confirms this:
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil…”
He showed us how to walk as redeemed sons and daughters filled with the same Spirit.
6. The Restoration of Dominion
Through His obedience unto death, Jesus took back what Adam lost:
Matthew 28:18 – “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
Colossians 2:15 – “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public spectacle of them.”
And now He shares that authority with us:
Luke 10:19 – “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions…”
Romans 8:17 – “We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.”
In short:
Adam lost dominion in a garden.
Jesus restored it in a garden.
Adam fell at a tree.
Jesus conquered at a tree.
Adam disobeyed and brought death.
Jesus obeyed and brought life.
The devil thought he won both times — but God’s plan was deeper than his schemes.
