Good morning everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
This morning I was blessed with a serenade of coyotes in my side yard. I am guessing there was more than one, to be honest, because I was too cozy to look out the window and the choir of rhythmic howls … well, you would have to be like the guy from Police Academy in order to pull it off alone. Needless to say, after the performance I could not get back to good sleep. After that, try a I might, I was up … 4 am today.
Yesterday during my lunch, I was able to knock out about 2400 words. A full chapter. I do like where and how this story is developing. My squirrel brain needs notes to keep in in line, but it is faring quite nicely. I am hopeful to knock another 2-3 thousand today at lunch. I have tipped the 30K mark, so it is just a matter of not losing my focus.
This weekend, we have the ‘she shed’ scheduled for completion. A group of family and friends are coming over to help us finish it. The weather is supposed to be perfect working weather. Cool enough to keep you from overheating, yet warm enough to keep you from frostbite.
As I look at my countdown, look at the projects that we have already completed and the ones we are almost finished with; retirement really feels real. My mother asked me last night if I was still positive about retiring, I told her there was no doubt in my mind. Whatever comes after, comes. She laughed and told me that she woke up one day, said I am done, walked into her boss’s office, and said I am retiring. He asked if she had spoken with another cook because she had left his office not fifteen minutes earlier with the same announcement. He was feeling a conspiracy…haha. I told her that I am at a point now where I know that I am no longer supposed to be there. I just have to wait the last little bit … I told her at one time in my life (after leaving the Army) I was not sure that I would find a job I could retire from … then up popped this one.
In my career, as I reflect on my journey, I have had many highs and lows, but all of them have helped me develop into the person that I am today, in the place that I am, and there is no way I could have done it without Him. He was here even when I went through my tantrum stage…patiently waiting for me get over myself. (not sure I am over myself completely…to be fair)
A lot of the journey is wondering ‘why’ this or ‘why’ that. That is completely normal. We cannot see the bigger picture. We cannot see around the corner of His plan. We can only see our bubble. We only know what ‘feels’ right to us. Where we might be correct…to a degree…there almost always is a little bit of something which makes (our) directional arrow slightly tilted. Fortunately for us, our Tour Guide is completely True North and knows exactly where He is going.
Today I would encourage you to reflect on the journey you have been on. Deep past to recent present. Look at how much you have already survived and persevered through. Yes, it is not most likely the smoothest walk, and it is most likely full of some areas you wished you could have avoided, but YOU are a better person because of those singed garments of not so nice travels. I know I am.
Be blessed today my friends.
***Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever, Praise the Lord. – Psalm 117
