“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
— Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)
Thought of The Day...
The tongue is small, but its power is enormous. It can speak life or death, healing or destruction. In the house of God, one of the most dangerous and overlooked sins is gossip — a silent killer that poisons relationships, divides congregations, and grieves the Holy Spirit.
The Bible says, “A whisperer separateth chief friends” (Proverbs 16:28). That same whisper, when left unchecked, can separate brothers and sisters in Christ, and even tarnish the unity of the church. Gossip doesn’t always shout — sometimes it hides behind “concern,” “sharing,” or “prayer requests” — but its fruit is always the same: division, mistrust, and wounded hearts.
When pastors or leaders engage in gossip, especially against other pastors, it becomes even more dangerous. Instead of building the Body of Christ, they tear it down. Yet Scripture reminds us in Romans 14:4,
“Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? To his own master he standeth or falleth.”
Each servant of God is accountable to Him alone. Speaking evil of another pastor is not discernment — it is disobedience.
God calls His people to use their words for edification. Words seasoned with grace bring healing, encouragement, and unity. Proverbs 26:20 says,
“Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.”
When gossip stops, peace begins.
So today, examine your conversations.
Something To Think About:
• Do my words build up or tear down?
• Do I speak to restore or to ruin?
• Would Jesus approve of the words I’m about to say?
Let’s be believers and leaders who silence gossip by choosing love, truth, and prayer instead of slander. Let’s be known not for the noise we make, but for the grace we speak.
Prayer...
Heavenly Father, Forgive us for every careless word and every time we’ve gossiped or listened to gossip. Purify our hearts and guard our tongues. Help us to speak words that bring life, healing, and unity to the Body of Christ. Teach us to cover others in love, not expose them in judgment. Make us instruments of peace, not division. May our lips always glorify You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection:
• Gossip divides; Grace unites.
• Choose to pray for people, not talk about them.
• The mark of spiritual maturity is not what we say about others — but what we refuse to say.
— Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)
