There was a time when every time I’d pray for people — at a service, with a friend, anywhere — especially an altar call while traveling - the presence of God would hit so strong it felt like electricity. People would fall over, cry, shake — and I started thinking that’s what it meant for God to move. So when it stopped happening, I thought I’d done something wrong. I thought God wasn’t using me the same because I must’ve missed something or messed up. Then He spoke to me and said, “I gave you those feelings so you’d know I was there. But I took those feelings because you started focusing more on them than on Me.” That moment changed me. I realized I’d made it about performance instead of presence — about feelings instead of faith. My dad told me the same thing happened to him when he first started pastoring and praying for people.
