By the standards of an idea torn from its foundation, Adolf Hitler was an Achiever. He got a lot done. He started a world war, killed 6 million Jews, had the crowd with him in hate filled speeches, all while having a lover.
In the Book of Genesis it says that the serpent was subtle. Jesus came and told us that God's top two commands were love for God and love for neighbor.

Achievement, like any idea, is best rooted in an understanding of God--and a love for Him. In our fallen world, we love achievement--never realizing that the basis for it is not making a lot of money, not making a name for ourselves, and not thinking that we are better than other people.

The gospel tells us that we bring nothing good to God. We have nothing to offer Him but our sin. Jesus said we must be born again and made new. Spiritually, we must be raised from the dead.

Achievement can be very important. We benefit from it. But love for God, and neighbor is more important, and should be the basis for everything we do.
