THE ADVENT TRUTH
At the Diet of Worms in 1521, Martin Luther stood before papal authorities and the Holy Roman Emperor—alone, accused, threatened, and pressured to renounce everything he had written. His books had shaken Europe, exposing falsehood, indulgences, the sale of salvation, and the corruption of Rome. They demanded one thing: Return to the Word of God. But that day, they told him to recant—to deny the truth to save himself.

Luther’s answer still echoes through the ages:

“Unless I am convinced by the testimony of Scripture or by clear reason, I cannot and will not recant, for it is unsafe to go against conscience. Here I stand; I can do no other. God help me. Amen.”

Why did he say that? Because truth doesn’t bow to pressure. Truth doesn’t negotiate. Truth doesn’t fear councils, kings, or churches. Luther understood a vital principle: our final authority is not tradition, not councils, not religious leaders—it is the Bible alone. When man-made doctrines contradict Scripture, we choose God over popular religion (Acts 5:29).

People today say, “The Protestant Reformation is over.” Rome claims it has healed the wound of division. Modern preachers, desperate for unity at any cost, preach a soft gospel, avoid controversy, and call for “peace” without truth. But the protest is not over—because the errors protested in Luther’s day are alive and well:

– Rome still claims the authority to change God’s law
– Tradition is still placed above Scripture
– A false priesthood still stands between sinners and Christ
– The Sabbath of the Bible is still replaced with a counterfeit day of worship

The Reformation was never just about Luther. It was about restoring the light of God’s Word to the world. As long as truth is under attack, the Reformation continues. And according to prophecy (Revelation 12:17; 14:12), God will have a final people at the end—faithful, obedient, sealed by truth—who will finish what Luther began.

Here we stand. We can do no other. The Reformation will not end—until Jesus returns.
