TESTIMONIES FROM THE EDGE- WHEN YOU ABOUT GIVING UP
From the eBook: “It’s Not Over”
By Rev. Ishmael Asare Bakae
Scripture Focus:
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.” — Revelation 12:11 (KJV)
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” — Psalm 34:19 (KJV)
There are moments in life when we stand at the edge of despair — one step away from giving up, one prayer away from surrendering hope. Yet, it is in those very moments that God often reveals His greatest power. Testimonies from the edge are stories birthed out of pain, faith, and divine intervention. They remind us that no situation is too far gone for God to redeem.
Many of the greatest testimonies in Scripture and in life were born on the brink of disaster — when all seemed lost and hope was fading. But God, in His mercy, showed up and turned the impossible into the incredible.
1. At the Edge of the Red Sea
The children of Israel stood trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army. Fear gripped their hearts, and they cried out in despair. Yet in that moment of hopelessness, God told Moses, “Lift up your rod.”
When Moses obeyed, the sea parted, and Israel walked through on dry land. What looked like the end became a passage to freedom.
Lesson: When you reach the edge, it’s not time to panic — it’s time to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord (Exodus 14:13). The same sea that threatened to destroy them became the instrument that destroyed their enemies.
2. At the Edge of the Fiery Furnace
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the golden image, even when threatened with death. They stood at the edge of a burning furnace, declaring, “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us, but even if He does not, we will not bow.” (Daniel 3:17–18).
Their faith moved heaven. When they were thrown into the fire, the Son of God appeared with them. The flames lost their power, and their chains were burned off instead.
Lesson: The edge is not your destruction point — it’s your revelation point. Sometimes, God won’t deliver you from the fire; He will deliver you in the fire so His glory will be seen.
3. At the Edge of the Lions’ Den
Daniel’s faithfulness to prayer led him to the lions’ den. Humanly speaking, it was over. But the same God who shut the mouth of the lions is still working today.
Daniel 6:22 — “My God hath sent His angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me.”
Lesson: When men push you to the edge because of righteousness, God will send angels to defend you. The den of danger can become the stage for your divine testimony.
4. At the Edge of Death
In John 11, Lazarus had been dead four days. The tomb was sealed; hope was gone. Yet Jesus declared, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who was dead came back to life.
What looked completely impossible became a testimony that shook the city.
Lesson: Even death cannot stop God’s purpose. When life has buried your dreams, Jesus can call them forth again. It’s not over until He speaks.
5. Modern-Day Testimonies from the Edge
In every generation, God raises people who testify that His power has not diminished.
• The business that was collapsing suddenly flourishes after prayer.
• The doctor’s report said “no hope,” but healing came miraculously.
• The rejected found divine favor.
• The forgotten were remembered overnight.
Beloved, if God could do it for them, He can do it for you. Your testimony is next.
6. What to Do When You’re on the Edge
1. Hold on to faith – The last key may be the one that opens the door.
2. Speak God’s Word – Your confession determines your continuation.
3. Keep praising – Praise attracts divine intervention.
4. Stay obedient – One act of obedience can shift your destiny.
5. Expect a miracle – God moves in the atmosphere of expectation.
The edge is not the end; it’s the beginning of a divine encounter.
7. From the Edge to Evidence
Every believer who refuses to give up will one day say, “If it had not been for the Lord, who was on my side…” (Psalm 124:1).
God turns your trials into testimonies so others can see His glory through your life. Your pain becomes proof of His power, and your endurance becomes evidence of His faithfulness.
Soon, you will stand before people and declare, “I was at the edge, but God pulled me back and gave me a new song!”
Reflection
1. Have you ever experienced being at the “edge” — emotionally, spiritually, or physically?
2. How did God intervene in that situation?
3. What does your current “edge” moment reveal about your faith in God?
Prayer Points
1. Father, thank You for being the God who shows up at the edge of my trials.
2. Every situation that looks hopeless — O Lord, turn it into a testimony.
3. Lord, help me to stand firm in faith when I face fiery trials.
4. By the blood of Jesus, I overcome every power trying to push me over the edge.
5. Father, let my life become a living testimony that inspires others to trust You more.
