Good morning, everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

Have you ever wondered why people are placed in your life? Those who are not like you. The ones that make you scratch your head and say ‘huh’?

Have you ever sat in reflection of your life, looked at the different obstacles you have overcome, pitfalls you have climbed out of, mountains you have climbed? Contemplated the valleys and how you got there, and the why?

Then, after some deep reflection and thought, you realized how far you have come, how much you achieved, the length of the road you traveled, and survived only to become a better person for it.

I have these moments frequently. Whenever a nibblet of doubt or worry creeps in, or a smidge of frustration … almost instantly, I am flooded with what I have overcome so far, so how is it that this little instance is going to define me now?

Today, as we head into surgery for his kidney stint, I watch how the anxiety of it all is troubling to him. He knows that everything is going to be okay. He knows that he surgeon is good at what he does. He knows that God has already mapped out the route and made it perfect. He knows all this; however, the anxiety of it all …

I never understood anxiety or depression until about 25ish years ago. I went through a stint where I remembered the lost look on his face, not knowing how to help me. The one thing that he did, the only thing that he needed to do, was exactly what he did … he was patient, tolerant of my mood swings, comforting and supportive. He never changed ‘who’ he was to be someone he thought I needed; he was just him.

Some people think that I am cold or lacking empathy, but in reality, I am just me. The person who never changes with the flow but shows up for the storm. Because I do not change ME, that presents the steadiness that someone else is looking for. The anchor to keep them in place and not floating away. The weighted security blanket of hugs. This is who God made me to be, so that I can be the steadying post in the corner of the fence. I have my own battles. I have my own doubts. I have my own physical person whom I draw strength from … but in turn … I try to do the same for others.

The enemy tries to use this information to tell me that it is my pride and that I am arrogant. Well, to some degree, he is correct, but my pride comes from God’s lessons for me. I am proud, proud of the obstacles that I have overcome, proud of the valleys I have survived, proud of the mountains that I have climbed … not because I could do it … but because He was not going to take me somewhere where He wasn’t already there.

I can remain steady and confident because the Father has given me that blessing. So as we go into today, I stand on His promise to me that He will always be there in whatever storm I land in. I have no reason to worry, I have no reason to change, He is forming me into who he wants me to be. So, beneath my feet, Satan, where you belong. I am standing on the Rock.

***but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on the wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31
