2 Kings 23:1-6 NKJV
2 Kings 23:1-6 Now the king sent them to gather all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem to him.
The king went up to the house of the LORD with all the men of Judah, and with him all the inhabitants of Jerusalem--the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD.
Then the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statues, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, the priests of the second order, and the door-keepers, to bring out of the temple of the LORD all the articles that were made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven, and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.
Then he removed the idolatrous priests whom the king of Judah had ordained to burn incense of the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem, and those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to be constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
And he brought out the wooden image for the house of the LORD, to the Brook Kidron outside Jerusalem, burned it at the Brook Kidron and ground it to ashes, and threw its ashes on the graves of of the common people.
Deuteronomy 31:9-13 So Moses wrote this law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.
And Moses commanded them, saying, "At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of release, at the Feast of Tabernacies,
"when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God in the place which He chooses, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
"Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they learn to fear the LORD your God and carefully observe all the words of this law,
"and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess."
2 Kings 11:13-21 Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the escorts and the people, she came to the people in the temple of the LORD.
When she looked, there was the king standing by a pillar according to the custom; and the leaders and the trumpeters were by the king. all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. So Athaliah tore her clothes and cried out, "Treason! Treason!"
And Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the army, and said to them, "Take her outside under guard, and slay with the sword whoever follows her." For the priest had said, "Do not let her be killed in the house of the LORD."
So they seized her; and she went by way of the horses' entrance into the king's house, and there she was killed.
Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD, the king, and the people, that they should be the LORD's people, and also between the king and the people.
And all the people of the land went to the temple of Baal, and tore it down. They thoroughly broke in pieces its altars and images, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
Then he took the captains of the hundreds, the bodyguards, the escorts, and all the people of the land; and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD, and went by way of the gate of the escorts to the king's house. Then he sat on the throne of the kings.
So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet, for they had slain Athaliah with the sword in the king's house.
Jehoash was seven years old when he became king.
