The End of Evil

October 30, 2025

Before He left the earth, Jesus warned the disciples about false Christs: “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:5). This is an amazing statement considering that, at the time He made it, His followers were nothing but a small, ragtag band of nobodies. The movement Jesus headed seemed, from a human perspective, doomed to failure.

Yet, just as Jesus had warned, many over the centuries have claimed to be Jesus, and just as He also warned, they deceived many into believing them. However, there is a problem with all these imposters: None have come in the manner the Bible said that He would come, which includes this depiction: “And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming” (2 Thessalonians 2:8).

The text for today shows that when Jesus returns, it’s going to be an event of universal proportions and a catastrophe for those who hated Him and persecuted His followers. Paul also wrote about Jesus coming “in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thessalonians 1:8).

Yes, the Second Coming is the great hope of Christians in every age (Titus 2:13). But for those living at the end of time, those who have had a chance to know Jesus and His gift of salvation but rejected it, His return will be a time of fear and ?destruction.

The destruction of the wicked will be complete. The “rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse.” This is also imagery of the Second Coming. Jesus will return and, while resurrecting the saved, will bring death upon the lost—all of them. The carnage will be great: “Their dead bodies shall be for meat for the birds of the heaven and the beasts of the earth” (Jeremiah 34:20).

Lord, I want to choose You, and life, right now—no matter what.

For Further Study: John 3:16; 2 Thessalonians 1:9; Matthew 24:27

Key Bible Texts

And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. (Revelation 19:21 KJV)
