That moment changed her entire life. So with $5,000 she’d saved from babysitting, she bought a small piece of land in Surkhet and, with the help of her friend and local neighbors, built what became the Kopila Valley School! Once a small “bamboo shack,” it has now served 1,000 students with state-of-the-art facilities, modern technology, and diverse course offerings. Students are provided healthy meals and taught how to garden, farm, and conserve. There's even a job readiness program called “Futures” to launch students toward college, vocational programs, and job training. And now many of them are out in the world as architects, engineers, social workers, teachers, and entrepreneurs! What a beautiful proof that one person’s heart can rebuild a community 🥹
