THE MYSTERY OF GOD’S PRESENCE

Understanding the Mystery
The presence of God is one of the greatest mysteries in the Christian journey. It is invisible yet undeniable, intangible yet transformational. Every manifestation of divine power, wisdom, and glory originates from His presence. To understand this mystery is to unlock the secret to victorious Christian living.
There are two dimensions of God’s presence revealed in Scripture:
1. His Omnipresence – God is everywhere at all times. Nothing in creation is hidden from Him (Psalm 139:7–10).
2. His Manifest Presence – This is when God reveals Himself in a tangible, experiential way to an individual or a community. It is the glory that can be felt, the fire that can be seen, and the voice that can be heard.
The omnipresence of God is a fact; the manifest presence of God is an experience. Every believer can acknowledge that God is everywhere, but not every believer experiences His revealed presence. This is the mystery that separates the common Christian from the consecrated Christian.
The Weight of His Glory
When the presence of God manifests, it comes with glory, power, and holiness. The Hebrew word for glory, kabod, means “weight” or “heaviness.” This means God’s presence is not a light or casual thing—it carries spiritual weight that can change environments and lives.
When Solomon dedicated the temple, the glory of God filled the house so mightily that the priests could not stand to minister (2 Chronicles 5:13–14). This is what happens when the mystery of His presence becomes reality—it overpowers human strength, silences the flesh, and exalts the majesty of God.
The same presence that parted the Red Sea, brought down the walls of Jericho, and empowered the early Church is available today. Yet many believers settle for religious activity without divine intimacy. We must learn to move from the outer court of knowledge to the holy place of encounter.
The Presence as a Person
The presence of God is not merely a feeling—it is God Himself revealed by His Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the custodian of divine presence. When the Holy Spirit indwells a believer, He brings Heaven’s atmosphere into that life. That is why Jesus said:
“And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever” (John 14:16).
This means the believer carries the very essence of God’s presence within. However, for that presence to manifest outwardly, the heart must remain sensitive, pure, and surrendered. The presence cannot be hosted in a polluted vessel; holiness becomes the vessel’s strength.
The Transforming Power of the Presence
No one encounters the presence of God and remains the same.
• Moses’ face shone after forty days in God’s glory.
• Isaiah was purified when he saw the Lord high and lifted up.
• Saul became Paul after falling under the power of divine light.
Every true encounter brings transformation, conviction, and commission. The presence of God breaks chains that sermons cannot, opens hearts that words cannot, and births destinies that human strength cannot.
