Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
As you know, yesterday my niece was called home to be with our Lord Jesus. Today I would like to tell you a little bit about this young lady.
She came into this world under a darkened shadow of challenges when the doctors failed to listen to her mother telling them that she felt something was off. Mom was right. Because they did not listen, young Piper came out with a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. The catalyst for such a lifelong challenge was reported as ingestion of fecal matter in the womb. As I understand it, that is.
My mother and I flew to LA to add support and love to the circle. Piper was expected to live only a few days. As she passed that milestone and hit her first birthday, we celebrated. Then she was not supposed to live past 4 or 5. Each year, we celebrated those milestones. Her CP challenge left her wheelchair bound and fairly non-verbal.
Piper took an immediate liking to my husband; however, there was something in my chemistry that she just did not like. Which was odd because I played with all the kids, cuddled, tried to get us both in trouble; however, Miss Piper was not having any of it. She did not like me at all. The sound of my voice sent her into ‘I am not happy mode’ but … the sound of my husband’s voice calmed her right down. Now, in his defense, he was always talking to her about being in the marching band, and they would make beautiful music together. The only time that Miss Piper liked me was when we went hiking at a state park and I carried her in people pack for kids. Like a backpack, but to carry people instead of stuff. This is the only time that she would not scream at the sound of my presence. I think maybe she took some delight in my toting her around. Haha.
As she entered her teenage years, her vocal abilities, though not words, but attitude, grunts, and screams, increased to a new language of understanding. My sister told me of a time her middle son was being ‘difficult’ and on cue, Piper shouted NO. (or something that was very much on point and correct for the situation) At this point, everyone in the room became silent, then laughed at the accuracy of her chosen word. I had witnessed firsthand similar outbursts, and they were magical.
But Piper was more than just your typical teenager; she was a magical unicorn that brought joy and happiness wherever she went. There was an aura about her that was glitter and sunshine. She showed the world that it didn’t matter what cards you were dealt, you could still be a witness and a beautiful source of Light.
Yesterday, God called her home with the entrance phrase we all want to hear, “Well done, Good and Faithful Servant”.
Where those who are anti-God will try and spin a dark negative narrative to her death at such a young age, let me show you the true Light that is here:
She was called to show unconditional love from a difficult start, yet she conquered milestone after milestone with flying colors. She was created to show that you do not have to have legs or a voice to be heard and to be loved. She was designed to bring purpose to life. And when she had accomplished all that she was designed to do, she was liberated and set free. She now plays with her older brother and cousin, who have been waiting for her.
God did not take her home to punish her parents and family; he called her home because her mission on earth was complete. The enemy is the one spinning this in a direction of hatred towards Him. Piper surpassed all the traps and valleys that the enemy attempted to set for her in her health; she made it to the finish line brilliantly, and now he is after those she left behind.
Today I stand in the gap for my family in prayer. Today, I pick up the gauntlet and say no more. Today, I prayerfully cover my family with Psalm 91 and Psalm 23 for protection against his attempts to sway them. Today … I bind his minions and cast them to dry places for eternity and rebuke them away from here. Today, I stand as a proud parent, auntie, and friend, but most of all I am a child of God, and I will protect with prayer those in this world I am called to protect.
Get thee behind me, Satan; there is no room for you here. You are a footstool to my feet, and you can crawl your way back to hell where you belong. This is Christ's Sovereign soil, and you have no place here.
Today, I encourage you to claim your territory for the King and prayerfully fight for its protection. As a unified church, we can win.
Be blessed today, my friends.
***Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lod your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. – Deuteronomy 31:6
