Remembering to Obey

Scripture

Numbers 15:39 (NKJV)
And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined.


A Reminder to Stay Faithful

In this verse, God instructs His people to wear tassels on the corners of their garments as a visible reminder to obey His commandments. Each time they looked at the tassels, they would remember who they belonged to and what He had called them to do. The tassels were not about decoration—they were about devotion. They reminded Israel to keep their hearts and eyes focused on God rather than being drawn to sin or distraction.

For believers today, we no longer wear physical tassels, but God still calls us to remember His Word daily. Scripture, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit keep our hearts aligned with His will. When we remember God’s Word, we resist temptation and live in faithfulness. Forgetfulness often leads to failure—but remembrance leads to obedience.

This verse challenges us to keep God’s truth before our eyes and His commands close to our hearts.
