1 John 4:7-11 Exploring RSV

1 John 4:7-11 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is if God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God.

He who does not love does not know God; for God is love.

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.

In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to one another.

1 John 3:10-15 By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of of the devil;  whoever does not right is not of God, nor he who does not love his brother.

For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,

and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him?  Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous.

Do not wonder, brethren, that the world hates you.

We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love remains in death.

Any one who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

1 John 3:21-24 Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

All who keep his commandments abide in him, and he in them. and by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given us.

Romans 5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

Titus 3:3-7 For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another;

but when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,

he saved us, not because of our deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit,

which he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life.
