THREE ANGELS BROADCASTING NETWORK DEVOTIONAL
The God of Healing

By Lyudmila Mironova November 10th, 2025

I was born in the Nizhny Novgorod Region of Russia, and because my father abused alcohol, there were many quarrels in my family.

I was sure God did not exist because that was what I was taught. I also grew up in the 1970s and 80s, when we were building a society on "enlightened socialism" moving towards communism and a wonderful future.

However, by the time I was 17, I began noticing the discrepancy between communist teaching and real life. Our newspapers and other media misrepresented reality by talking about great achievements and high performance but remaining silent about any failures. That earthly paradise they talked about seemed very distant, and I realized that the communist idea of a wonderful society existed only on paper.

If high-ranking people, the leaders of our country, and even the scientists lie, then where is the truth? I wondered. Maybe there is no truth, or if there is, then where can I find it?

Things weren't happy at home, either, and the constant quarrels between my parents oppressed me. Life had no meaning, and I developed an inferiority complex. The lack of love, affectionate words, and friendly sympathy depressed me. I tired so quickly that the doctors diagnosed me with asthenia, or complete physical weakness attributed to nervous exhaustion. I was given strong sedatives and tranquilizers, which only made things worse.

I'd always had difficulties with relationships, but I really wanted a family and a child, so I got married, hoping things would be different. My husband had managed to hide his alcohol problem before I married him, but now it seemed like everything bad in my life was happening again—just as it had in my own family—and my health grew steadily worse.

Our first child was stillborn, and the labor was so hard that my doctors told me the next child would have to be delivered by Caesarean Section. But as I reflected on what had happened, I was convinced that children had to be a gift from God, and I desperately began to pray for a daughter. I got pregnant again and constantly cried out, "God, please send me a daughter!" The Lord answered—and my daughter was born without a C-section!

I wanted to educate my child in the love of God so she would be kind and sensitive, but I didn't know how. But God intervened again, and with the fall of communism, our closed city was suddenly opened to foreigners. And that's when I saw the billboards advertising a large series with an Australian evangelist named Pastor John Carter. The topics on his posters interested me, so I attended the meetings with a great desire.

I can't say I understood everything he said with my mind, which had been closed to spiritual truths all my life. But I felt sincere love for people, and there was peace in my soul. One thing I understood clearly, though, was that the truth must come from God and His Word. I also understood that His Word is always fulfilled.

I accepted the Bible truth with all my heart, and my faith in man's wisdom was replaced by faith in our Eternal and Almighty God. But despite this, I didn't know where I could find a church that believed as I did—and I was too ashamed to ask.

Then, two years later, a woman from work invited me to attend her church, and a new world opened up! Each service was a joyous experience. God loved me! He wished me happiness! He had prepared precious heavenly gifts for me! My heart was filled with peace and hope in knowing that God would take care of me.

As I studied the Bible, I realized that my character would have to change, and God had already begun doing His beautiful work in my heart. Before, I was focused on my thoughts, I was afraid of people, and I didn't like them. Now, I learned to accept them as they were, and I focused on their needs. The Lord taught me to show them sympathy, attention, and care. He shifted my gaze from myself to the people around me and taught me how to give Him all my problems.

He also taught me a healthy lifestyle through His Word, and today I don't drink, I eat vegetarian food, and my health is much better than before. God has healed me from the nervous exhaustion, and even though my work requires a lot of concentration, I never get tired. But most of all, God has given me so much love for my daughter, Vika, even though I was deprived of love as a child. Yes, He truly is the God of Healing.
