EZEKIEL 44:15
Zadok was the son of Ahitub, a descendant of Aaron through the line of Eliezer (cf. 1 Ch 6:50–53). He was a priest alongside Abiathar during David’s reign (cf. 2 Sa 8:17) and showed loyalty to David during Absalom’s rebellion (cf. 2 Sa 15:24–29; 19:11–13). When the house of Abiathar (cf. Eli) was deposed by Solomon (cf. 1 Sa 2:27–36; 1 Ki 2:27), the Zadokite priesthood remained. The Zadokite line remained until Antiochus IV, a Gentile, inappropriately appointed non-Zadokite Menelaus to the high priesthood in 171 BC. Interestingly, the Qumran community looked forward to the restoration of the Zadokite priesthood. - RALPH H. ALEXANDER #Christianity #Scripture #Bible
