UNDERSTANDING THE SOURCE OF POWER
Theme Scripture:
“God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.” — Psalm 62:11
Power is the ability to act, to influence, and to cause change. In the spiritual realm, power is not just force — it is divine authority, supernatural energy, and heavenly enablement to accomplish God’s purposes on earth. But to operate in real power, we must first understand its Source.
Many pursue power without pursuing God, and as a result, they end up with imitation — powerless religion and shallow manifestations. But true power cannot be manufactured; it must be received from the Source. Every authentic display of power — from creation to redemption — has its origin in the Almighty God.
1. God — The Fountain of All Power
From the very beginning, Scripture declares that all power originates from God.
“Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty…” (1 Chronicles 29:11).
When God said, “Let there be light,” the universe responded instantly (Genesis 1:3). That creative command was not mere speech; it was a release of divine power. Every atom, every planet, every form of life testifies to the dynamic energy that flows from God’s being.
God’s power is not measured, limited, or exhausted. He never grows weak or weary (Isaiah 40:28). His strength cannot be drained by human need or cosmic demand. He remains the Eternal Power Source — self-existent, self-sustaining, and all-sufficient.
Human power fades; divine power is inexhaustible.
2. The Nature of God’s Power
Understanding the Source requires understanding His nature. God’s power is:
• Creative Power: It brings something out of nothing (Genesis 1).
• Restorative Power: It renews, heals, and revives (Psalm 23:3; Ezekiel 37).
• Transforming Power: It changes sinners into saints (2 Corinthians 5:17).
• Resurrection Power: It conquers death and gives eternal life (Philippians 3:10).
• Sustaining Power: It upholds all creation by His word (Hebrews 1:3).
This is not a mechanical energy; it is personal power — the expression of a living, relational God who works through His Spirit.
3. The Source Manifested through the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the channel through which God’s power is revealed and transmitted. In Genesis 1:2, the Spirit of God hovered over the waters before creation began — the divine current waiting to move at God’s word. Every miracle in the Old and New Testaments was accomplished by the power of the Spirit.
Jesus Himself operated through this same Source. The Bible says, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil…” (Acts 10:38).
If the Son of God depended on the Holy Spirit, how much more must we remain connected to Him to function effectively?
Without the Holy Spirit, ministry becomes empty activity, and Christianity becomes a form without fire. The Spirit is the plug that connects us to divine energy. When the Spirit departs, power departs.
4. Man’s Design for Divine Connection
Man was created not to generate power but to transmit it. Like a light bulb, we shine only when connected to the Source. Adam’s authority in Eden came from his uninterrupted fellowship with God. When sin broke that fellowship, the light went out. Man became spiritually disconnected, and weakness entered humanity.
But through the finished work of Jesus Christ, the line was restored. Every believer now has access to the same divine current that raised Jesus from the dead:
“The Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you…” (Romans 8:11).
This means power is no longer distant — it is within reach. Every Christian carries the potential of divine energy, but it only flows through intimacy, obedience, and faith.
5. The Danger of Substituting the Source
In every generation, Satan offers counterfeit sources of power — occultism, manipulation, and human wisdom — all of which promise quick results but end in bondage. The believer must be discerning. Any power that bypasses submission to God is demonic and destructive.
Moses demonstrated this truth before Pharaoh. The magicians could imitate the first miracles, but there came a point when they confessed, “This is the finger of God.” (Exodus 8:19).
Only God’s power is pure, limitless, and eternal.
6. Staying Plugged into the Source
To stay connected to the Source of unlimited power, you must:
1. Cultivate intimacy with God through prayer and worship.
2. Stay in the Word — it is the voltage that charges your spirit.
3. Live in holiness — sin disconnects and short-circuits divine flow.
4. Walk in obedience — power follows alignment with divine will.
5. Remain humble — power increases in vessels that give God glory.
When you prioritize presence over performance, you maintain connection. When you exalt the Giver above the gift, the current never ceases to flow.
Reflection
• Do I truly understand that all power belongs to God alone?
• Am I depending on my own strength or drawing from the Source?
• Have I allowed sin or pride to disconnect me from divine flow?
• What practical steps am I taking daily to stay connected to the Holy Spirit?
Prayer Points
1. Lord, open my eyes to understand You as the true Source of all power.
2. Holy Spirit, reconnect every broken channel of power in my life.
3. Father, deliver me from every counterfeit or deceptive source of power.
4. Renew my intimacy with You, O God, and let Your power flow through me afresh.
5. I receive grace to walk in obedience, humility, and unbroken connection with You.
