The Coming Star

Scripture

Numbers 24:17 (NKJV)
I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel.

The Promise of the Messiah

In this verse, Balaam—who was hired to curse Israel—was compelled by God to speak a prophecy filled with hope. He saw a future figure described as a Star and a Scepter rising out of Israel. This was not a political leader of Balaam’s day; it was a prophetic glimpse of the coming Messiah. Though distant in time, God was revealing that a King of eternal power and glory would one day come from the line of Jacob.

For believers today, this prophecy points directly to Jesus Christ. He is the bright Morning Star and the eternal King who holds the scepter of righteousness. This ancient prophecy reminds us that God’s plan for salvation was not accidental or sudden—it was prepared long before Jesus was born, woven into Scripture with perfect precision.

This verse reminds us that God always keeps His promises, and that Christ’s coming was part of His sovereign plan from the beginning.

Reflection Questions

1. How does knowing Jesus fulfilled ancient prophecies strengthen my faith?

2. What does it mean for me personally that Jesus is the Star and Scepter—my Savior and King?

3. Am I living under His authority and following His light each day?

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for revealing Your plan through Scripture long before Christ came. Thank You that Jesus is the promised Star and the eternal King. Help me to follow His light, submit to His rule, and live each day in faith and obedience. In Jesus name, Amen.
