60 Second – Commitment to God – Surrendering to Christ
Pastor Joseph Clark – Airing April 23, 2023
When we are in a relationship with someone, our level of commitment is not merely something we say—it is something we demonstrate. True commitment is revealed in the way we live and in the priorities we make. Healthy and meaningful relationships always carry marks of dedication, devotion, and genuine love. These same marks apply even more fully in our relationship with God. Consider the following:
Firstly: Sacrifice.
Are we prepared to make sacrifices for the one we claim to love? In earthly relationships, sacrifice shows sincerity; in our relationship with God, sacrifice reveals whether we truly value Him above all else. Jesus reminds us that following Him may require giving up certain comforts, habits, or attitudes—but the reward is eternal.
Secondly: Sentiment.
Do we genuinely have their best interest at heart? Real love is not self-serving; it seeks the good of the other. When we love God, we desire what pleases Him. Our hearts lean toward His will, His glory, and His purposes. Sentiment toward God means our affection is not cold or distant but warm, intentional, and rooted in gratitude.
Thirdly: Fidelity.
Are we loyal to them? Loyalty is the backbone of every strong relationship. Faithfulness to God means standing firm in our devotion even when the world pulls us in other directions. It means resisting temptation, staying anchored in Scripture, and remaining committed to Christ regardless of circumstances.
Fourth: Selflessness.
Do we restrain ourselves from doing what we want when it compromises the relationship? Selflessness in our walk with God is a hallmark of true discipleship. Jesus calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. This means surrendering our own desires when they conflict with His will and choosing obedience over convenience.
Fifth: Importance.
Do we place them before ourselves and others? Whatever holds first place in our lives becomes our true master. Our relationship with God is not an optional accessory or a backup plan; it is the foundation of everything. He deserves first place—before people, possessions, ambitions, or personal comfort. When God becomes our highest priority, everything else in our lives is properly aligned.
Our relationship with God is not a “get out of jail free” card. It is not an insurance policy just in case He turns out to be real. Our relationship with God is not a luxury or an afterthought—it is a necessity. It is the must have relationship of our lives. God is not one among many; He comes before all others, and everything we do flows from that divine relationship.
“His banner over me is love.”
— Song of Songs 2:4
This love is not simply a feeling—it is the covering, the protection, the identity, and the joy of every believer who belongs to Him.
Please pray for me as I will for you:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Holy name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.”
