Equipped by God for Leadership
Scripture
Numbers 27:18 (NKJV)
And the Lord said to Moses: Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him.
Called and Empowered
In this verse, Moses is nearing the end of his leadership, and God directs him to appoint Joshua as his successor. Joshua is not chosen because of talent, popularity, or strength, but because the Spirit of God is within him. Moses was to lay hands on Joshua to publicly affirm the calling that God had already placed on his life. This moment shows us that godly leadership is not achieved by personal ambition but by divine calling and spiritual empowerment.
For believers today, this truth is vital. Whether we lead in our homes, ministries, workplaces, or communities, the most important qualification is the presence of the Holy Spirit. God equips those He calls. We do not need to fear stepping into roles God assigns us, because His Spirit gives boldness, wisdom, and strength beyond our own abilities.
This verse reminds us that leadership in God’s kingdom begins with surrender, not self-promotion, and it is sustained by the Spirit, not human effort.
Reflection Questions
1. Am I relying on the Holy Spirit in the areas where I lead, or am I depending on my own strength?
2. What responsibilities has God placed in my life that require His empowerment?
3. How can I prepare my heart to lead with humility, courage, and the Spirit’s guidance?
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for calling and equipping Your people for every good work. Fill me with Your Spirit so I can lead with wisdom, humility, and courage. Help me to trust in Your strength rather than my own, and use my life to bring honor to Your name. In Jesus name, Amen.
