Highest Priority
Christians often complain that they would “love to spend more time with God,” but their life is too crazy busy to even have a moment to breathe. That line is usually followed up with all the excuses: “Mornings are too hectic,” “I’m too busy,” “I’m too tired,” “There’s always a million interruptions,” and so on. But here’s a fact - people always “make” time for the things that are important to them. There are quite a few ‘busy people’ who seem to have time to play golf, read books, take vacations, have a hobby, or whatever else they're passionate about. If you don’t know what your priorities are, then that’s a problem. Without perimeters around what’s important to you, you’ll say “yes” to everything and accomplish nothing. Even worse, you’ll be like a hamster on a wheel, going around and around in meaningless circles, which leads to burnout - not the abundant life filled with joy that God desires for you. Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not a life worth living.” Take some time to pray and reflect and think about what it is that makes you happy, that brings you joy . . . and then take the necessary steps to remove the things from your life that are roadblocks to happiness. If God is your number-one priority, then you’ll not only “make” time for Him, you’ll find you can’t function without Him. Pray and ask God to take control of your calendar. God doesn’t demand that mornings must be the time you set aside for Him - it can be any time of the day - He just wants you to make Him a priority! Be courageous and jump off the spinning hamster wheel and rethink the values that are influencing your decisions and goals. Be intentional about setting clear priorities so that only what is truly important to you is on your daily agenda. Make God your highest priority, and your life will be filled with joy, contentment, and best of all, an intimacy with your Lord and Savior such as you’ve never had before. Start each day singing His praises such as Paul did in Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Text: Matthew 6:33, Psalm 63:6-8, 1 Chronicles 16:11, James 4:8
