Finding Peace

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” Isaiah 41:10
Have you ever had a day when everything went wrong? Did you feel like giving up? Let me share an experience I had a few years ago when everything I did seemed to go wrong.
It was a perfect day to go to the woods and cut some trees for firewood. I had picked the trees I wanted to cut and was excited to get a head start on our winter wood supply. I walked into the woods with my trusty chainsaws and began to cut my first tree. Everything was going as planned—until I finished my final cut. The tree started to fall, but it lodged itself in another tree. I had misjudged my notch cut, which guides the tree as it falls, by just a couple of inches. Noticing another dead tree nearby, I decided to cut it down and let it fall on the first one to knock it loose. But it didn’t have enough momentum, and it got lodged on the first tree!
Well, it was time to go back to the barn to get a tractor to pull those trees down. But the tractor I drove out there was too small and didn’t even shake them. So I decided I’d get our 200+ horsepower four-wheel-drive tractor. Surely that would do the job. But to make this story shorter, I broke two big logging chains before I was able to get both trees on the ground! To be honest, I actually laughed at the mess I’d created for myself. But had I not leaned on the Lord while this was happening, I would have lost my patience and given up.
That is exactly how Satan tries to discourage us on our Christian walk. Life is full of disappointments and, he tempts us to give up and even blame God for everything that goes wrong. But we are encouraged by the words found in John 16:33 that say, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Life will always present disappointments and trials, but Jesus promises to give us peace amidst our burdens. Praise the Lord!
Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.” So, when everything seems to be falling apart, I urge you to turn to our heavenly Father, who promises to give us peace.
