Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
In light of this very busy week, the work on my book has come to a complete standstill. I had hoped to be closer to the end because editing this monstrosity is going to be tedious and long. That is a lot of reading for someone who does not like reading. My goal is to finish this one before the end of the month so that I can spend the month of December editing it. I have the cover, thanks to a lovely young friend of mine. Now, if only I could have a completed story. Haha.
Last night my children blessed me with laughter. I texted my daughter with “I have questions”. Fully expecting a goofy emoji to be her response. Nope. She called me. She does not like talking on the phone. So this response caught me off guard. Just prior to texting her, I had sent a series of texts to my son (approximately 30 seconds apart…more than enough time to answer … haha). I was not on the phone with her more than a min when my son called. I could hear the phone beeping but was already engaged in a conversation…all I could do is laugh. My call did not last long with her, but some need answers were obtained. Then I look down at my phone for the replies that my son had sent … all of which blamed his sister. This of course sent me into another laughing fit. (All the while my husband is watching and is very much confused,) When my son answers the phone he expresses how it is not his fault and his sister is to blame. I haven’t even asked him my questions … it is like it was when they were kids. Wonderful.
At the end of the conversation, a hearty and full of laughter conversation, we bid each other a kind farewell, and we had both shared that it was alternative office time and we did not want to hear the other take care of business.
In the course of the conversation my son revealed that he was having a week. At one point he was just annoyed at life and air. No reason just annoyed. But his friend called for no reason one day and had him in stitches…thus breaking the annoying cloud to pieces. It was at that moment that I, too, was annoyed at different thing that had no reason for such a reaction. I would have to say that my Mother’s intuition kicked in, and I was feeling his woes. Because of this thought, I now know that if my mommy senses are off the wire, I need to check on my kids.
Mind you, I had my fair share of issues this week; overburdened doc/work schedule, failed ability to focus, etc. However, it was compounded by my mother’s instinct to protect and comfort my kids.
We all have a built-in mechanism that is triggered by the one(s) it is assigned to. Mothers are attached to their kids. Fathers are to the family as a whole. Kids to their friends. And so on. Sometimes we know why this mechanism activates, sometimes we are lost about the why until it is over. Whatever the case may be, it is there and is a gift.
The next time your mechanism is in a full-blown active role, stop and ask the Father to direct your sight to the area that is truly the area in need. Not only will he show you where your attention needs to be, but he will also send you a sign of peace. He did that for me yesterday as well, when a friend was lip-syncing one of my favorite songs to me at work.
Be blessed today my friends.
