Matthew 9:1-13 (October 4) One year Chronological NIV

Matthew 9:1-13 (October 4) Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.

Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic. "Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven."

At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, "This fellow is blaspheming!"

Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?

Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...." Then he said to the paralytic, "Get up, take your mat and go home."

And the man got up and went home.

When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to men.

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples.

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"

On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

But go and learn what this means; 'I Desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Matthew 12:22-30 (October 8) Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.

All the people were astonished and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"

But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "it is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons. that this fellow drives out demons."

Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.

If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?

And if I drive out demons  by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out?  So then, they will be your judges.

But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

"Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.

"He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

Mark 2:3-5 (October 4) Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them.

Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on.

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

Luke 5:18-20 (October 4) Some men carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus.

When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.

When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."

Matthew 11:16-19 (October 8) "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others;

"'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon,'

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners."' But wisdom is proved right by her actions."

Hosea 6:6 (July 1) For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings.

Matthew 12:7-8 (October 4) If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,'  you would not have condemned the innocent.

For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
