Matthew 9:1-13 NASB
A Paralytic Healed
Matthew 9:1-13 Getting into a boat, Jesus crossed over the sea and came to his own city.
And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.'
And some of the scribes said to themselves, "This fellow blasphemes."
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, "Why are you thinking evil in your hearts?
"Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, Get up, and walk'?
"But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--then He said to the paralytic, "Get up, pick up your bed and go home."
And he got up and went home.
But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
Matthew Called
As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector's booth; and He said to him, "Follow Me!" And he got up and followed Him.
Then it happened that as Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples.
When the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, "Why is your Teacher eating with tax collectors and sinners?"
But when Jesus heard this, He said, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.
"But go and learn what this means: 'I desire compassion, And not sacrifice,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
The Pharisees Rebuked
Matthew 12:22-30 Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw.
All the crowds were amazed, and were saying, "This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?"
But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons."
And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand.
"If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason they will be your judges.
"But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
"Or how can anyone enter the strong man's house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.
The Unpardonable Sin
"He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.
Mark 2:3-5 And they came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four men.
Being unable to get to him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying.
And Jesus seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."
Luke 5:18-20 And some men were carrying on a bed a man who was paralyzed; and they were trying to bring him in and to set him down in front of Him.
But not finding any way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down through the tiles with his stretcher, into the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus.
Seeing their faith, He said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven you."
Matthew 11:16-19 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children in the marketplaces, who call out to the other children,
and say, 'We played the flute for you; and you did did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'
"For John came neither eating nor drinking, and the say,"he has a demon!'
"The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds."
Hosea 6:6 For I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, And in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
Matthew 12:7-8 "But if you had known what this means; 'I desire compassion, and not a sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.
