Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
I learned something yesterday that I wanted to share with you. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense.
A dad was sitting one the couch doing his thing when he could hear his daughter tell Alexa to continue to turn up the radio in her room to her favorite song. The dad said that about every 30 seconds he would hear his daughter “Alexa, turn it up”. Pretty soon, all he could hear in the front room was the music and his daughter singing. He continued that he heard his daughter call his name. “DAD” and he replied “JANE”. Then again “DAD” and he replied, “JANE”. This went on for several rounds when she finally emerged from her room upset, “Dad I was calling you?” His answer was, “I was answering, but you did not hear me.”
How loud is our life?
Is it so loud that we cannot hear the Father? I can’t hear God. Why has he gone silent? Why won’t God answer me? What have I done wrong? I don’t hear His voice anymore. Why has he gone silent?
Common questions we all ask from time to time in our lives. It is natural to go through this phase. But let me ask you this, what are you doing so that you cannot hear Him? Are you constantly plugged into a podcast or music? Are you regularly on your computer or phone? Are you normalizing the television entertainment?
Or.
Are you seeking His Word? Are you prayerfully engaged in silent conversation with Him so that his whispers can be heard?
Though music, podcasts, and devotions are good, if they consume your time and focus, you are not leaving Him any space to talk to you. I have this problem from time to time.
In order to insure that you are in communion with the Father, you must make time for the Father. We have time for social media. We have time for friends. We have time for our favorite shows. We have time for this and for that, but somehow, we fall short on the time we give to Him. Is it any wonder that we cannot hear Him because of the noise we have allowed to enter our space?
As we approach this Thanksgiving day, might we take a few moments and carve out a new tradition ... if only for ourselves ... that we set aside specific time every day that is dedicated to Him. In my life, that complete dedication time is the first thing in the morning before my feet hit the floor and the last thing of a night before my head hits the pillow. It may only be for a few minutes, but since I started that, I hear and see Him much clearer now. I know, throughout the day, when I need to escape to a quiet place and have a conversation. I know when my spirit is disturbed, and it needs to be stilled. I hear his whispers more frequently.
Take a moment and go to Him and ask Him for his presence solidly in your day. Give thanks for all the blessings and listen closely … He is there.
Be blessed today my friends.
***I called your name, O Lord, from the depths of the pit. You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears to my cry for relief.” You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.” – Lamentations 3:55-57
