This is how the story ends. The 5 foolish virgins must rush out to buy oil for their lamps because they have run out. But when they return to attend the banquet, the door is closed and they are not allowed in. This parable is a two-fold warning. Firstly it is a warning to always be ready, because you do not know when the Lord will return. You do not want to be unprepared when He arrives. But secondly, this is a warning that the door will one day close. Grace and mercy are freely offered to us right now, but there will be a day when it is no longer available. How tragic would it be to be on the outside of the locked door, and hearing the words "I do not know you". I pray you take this parable to heart, and always be ready for the Lord's return.
