Obedience That Honors God
Scripture
Numbers 36:10 (NKJV)
Just as the Lord commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad.
A Heart Willing to Obey
In this verse, the daughters of Zelophehad obey God’s instruction regarding their inheritance. Earlier, they had courageously approached Moses to ask for their rightful portion since their father had no sons. God affirmed their request, granting them an inheritance. Now, when God gives further instruction—requiring them to marry within their tribe to preserve that inheritance—they obey without hesitation. Their obedience protected their blessing and honored God’s order.
For believers today, this verse teaches the importance of obeying God not only when it is easy but also when it requires sacrifice or adjustment. Sometimes obedience means letting go of our own preferences to align with God’s purpose. True obedience reflects trust—trust that God’s wisdom is greater than our own and that His commands always work for our good.
This verse shows us that blessing flows not only from asking boldly, like these daughters did, but also from obeying faithfully.
Reflection Questions
1. Do I obey God only when it is convenient, or do I follow Him even when it requires sacrifice?
2. What instructions from God have I delayed or resisted?
3. How can I cultivate a heart that trusts God enough to obey fully?
Prayer
Lord God, give me a heart like the daughters of Zelophehad—bold enough to seek Your promises and humble enough to obey Your instructions. Teach me to trust Your wisdom and to walk in obedience, knowing that Your plans for me are good. In Jesus name, Amen.
