John 8:12-18 (October 23) When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

The Pharisees challenged him, "Here you are, appearing as you own witness; your testimony is not valid."

Jesus answered, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.

You judge my human standards; I pass judgment on no one.

But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me,

In your own law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid.

I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."

John 8:28-29 (October 23) So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will now that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.

The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him."

John 12:34-36 (November 1) The crowd spoke up, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever, so how can you say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this "Son of Man'?"

Then Jesus told them, "You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going,

Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may may become sons of light." When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.

John 12:44-47 (November 1) Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.

When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me,

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

"As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it.

Luke 9:51-56 (October 18) As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem,

And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;

but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem,

When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?"

But Jesus turned and rebuked them,

and they went to another village.

Luke 12:41-48 (October 20) Peter asked, "Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?"

The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time?

It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.

I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk.

The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at a hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

"That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows.

But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked,
