WAITING ON GOD WHEN NOTHING MAKES SENSE
There are seasons in life when everything seems confusing.
Your prayers look unanswered.
Your obedience feels unnoticed.
Your faith appears unproductive.
You look at your life and say:
“Lord, I don’t understand what You are doing.”
Yet the Christian journey includes seasons of holy waiting, where God is working even when nothing is visible.
Waiting is not weakness. Waiting is not delay.
Waiting is God’s workshop for building His vessels.
1. WAITING ON GOD IS A TEST OF TRUST
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all thy heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding…”
When nothing makes sense:
You do not lean on what you see,
You lean on who God is.
God allows seasons where your logic fails so that your faith can grow.
The silence of God is not the absence of God; it is the training of God.
2. GOD’S TIMING IS ALWAYS PERFECT
Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He hath made everything beautiful in His time…”
God is never late.
He is never confused.
He is never uncertain.
Your waiting season is part of His divine timetable.
Sometimes God delays:
To prepare you,
To protect you,
To position you.
If He gave you the blessing too early, it could destroy you.
Waiting is not punishment; it is preparation.
3. EVEN GOD’S GENERAL SERVANTS WAITED
Abraham
Waited 25 years for the promised son.
(Romans 4:20–21)
Joseph
Waited 13 years from pit to palace.
(Genesis 39–41)
David
Waited years to sit on the throne after being anointed.
(1 Samuel 16 to 2 Samuel 5)
Jesus
Waited 30 years before beginning ministry.
(Luke 3:23)
If they waited and God was faithful,
you too can wait and God will be faithful.
4. GOD WORKS IN THE INVISIBLE BEFORE THE VISIBLE
Isaiah 64:4
“God works for those who wait for Him…”
Even when you see nothing,
God is arranging everything.
Doors you don’t see are opening.
Battles you don’t know about are being won.
People you’ve never met are being aligned.
Resources you haven’t imagined are being prepared.
Waiting is not wasted —
Heaven is working while you are waiting.
5. WAITING REFINES YOUR CHARACTER
James 1:3–4
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience…”
Waiting kills:
Pride
Impatience
Fleshly desires
Self-dependence
Waiting produces:
Strength
Maturity
Brokenness
Depth
Obedience
Spiritual clarity
God is not just preparing the blessing for you —
He is preparing you for the blessing.
6. WHAT TO DO WHILE YOU WAIT
1. Pray Persistently
(Luke 18:1) – “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”
2. Worship Instead of Worry
(Psalm 27:14) – “Wait on the LORD… He shall strengthen thine heart.”
3. Keep Obeying God
(Isaiah 40:31) – “They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength…”
4. Stand on His Word
(Psalm 119:49–50) – God’s Word brings life to the waiting soul.
5. Stop trying to understand everything
(Deuteronomy 29:29) – Some things belong only to God.
7. THE PROMISE OF THOSE WHO WAIT
Isaiah 40:31
“They shall mount up with wings as eagles…”
When God finally moves:
He restores wasted years,
He redeems lost opportunities,
He accelerates destiny.
You may wait for a long time,
but when God shows up,
He does in one day what you couldn’t do in ten years.
CONCLUSION
When nothing makes sense, trust God.
When time seems slow, trust God.
When prayers feel unanswered, trust God.
When your heart is confused, trust God.
God is not late.
God is not silent.
God is not confused.
He is working behind the scenes.
Your waiting will not end in shame.
Your tears will not be wasted.
Your faith will not be disappointed.
He is the God who never fails.
PRAYER
“Lord, help me to trust Your timing.
Give me strength to wait without complaining.
Work in me while You work for me.
Let my waiting end in testimony, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
