The Cutting of the Covenant
Genesis 15:1-6 After these things the LORD's message came to Abram in a vision; "Fear not, Abram! I am your shield and the one who will reward you in great abundance."
But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, what will you give me since I continue to be childless, and my heir is Eliezer of Damascus?
Abram added, "Since you have not given me a descendant, then look, one born in my house will be my heir!"
But look, the LORD's message came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but instead a son who comes from your own body will be your heir." The LORD took him outside and said, "Gaze into the sky and count the stars--if you are able to count them!" Then he said to him, "So will your descendants be."
Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD credited it as righteousness to him.
Genesis 22:12 "Do not harm the boy!" the angel said, "Do not do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God because you did not withhold your son, your only son, from me."
Exodus 14:31 When Israel saw the great power that the LORD had exercised over the Egyptians, they feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.
Deuteronomy 30:12 It is not in heaven, as though one must say, 'Who will go up to heaven to get it for us and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?'
The Punishment from God
Numbers 14:11 The LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people despise me, and how long will they not believe in me, in spite of the signs that I have done among them?
Numbers 21:7-9 Then they people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD that he would take away the snakes from us." So Moses prayed for the people.
The LORD said to Moses, "Make a poisonous snake and set it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will live."
So Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole, so that if a snake had bitten someone, when he looked at the bronze snake he lived.
Job 24:13-17 There are those who rebel against the light; they do not know its ways and they do not stay on its paths.
Before daybreak the murderer rises up; he kills the poor and the needy; in the night he is like a thief.
And the eye of the adulterer watches for the twilight, thinking, ' No eye can see me,' and covers his face with a mask.
In the dark the robber breaks into houses, but by day they shut themselves in; they do not know the light.
For all of them, the morning is to them like deep darkness; they are friends with the terrors of darkness.
Psalm 1:6 Certainly the LORD guards the way of the godly, but the way of the wicked ends in destruction.
Psalm 52:3 You love evil more than good, lies more than speaking the truth Selah
Proverbs 8:30 then I was beside him as a master craftsman, and I was his delight day by day, rejoicing before him at all times,
Proverbs 30:4 Who has ascended into heaven, and then descended? Who has gathered up the winds in his fists? Who has bound up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you can know!
Isaiah 5:20-21 Beware, those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter.
Beware, those who think they are wise, those who think they possess understanding.
